Tag scaled up its involvement in Ukraine, in light on the persistent humanitarian crisis affecting the country. We are focused primarily on five cities: Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Odessa, and Dnipro.

We support our partners in a multitude of ways, from food parcels to psychosocial support, from special events for internally displaced people to summer and winter children’s and adult programs. We assisted in a variety of infrastructure works, from the conversion of basements into bomb shelters for schools and community centres, to repairing windows and roofs damaged by the bombs, to installation of air conditioning in bomb shelters.

Tag sent teams of professionals – mostly social workers – to volunteer at the Polish border with Ukraine. We established homes for refugees in the city of Rzeszow in Poland safe accommodation for vulnerable women and children. We also help two orphanages from Odessa and Zhytomyr, including moving them to safety and increasing bed capacity to accommodate the, unfortunately, growing demand.

the leiman fund

The Leiman Youth Scholarship Fund was established in 2019 to give scholarships to enable young people from deprived areas to secure a place at a Jewish high school, so that they can benefit from both a strong Jewish and general studies education. We now grant more than 70 annual scholarships to boys and girls in Argentina, Belarus and Ukraine, and we also provide a range of other support for  orphaned and disadvantaged children in Ukraine and Belarus.

Our partnership with the schools widened to include a range of other assistance, such as providing computers for the children, covering the salary of social workers, and refurbishing a school playground. Each year we sponsor the purchase and distribution of gifts during the winter season for many dozens of orphans and disadvantaged children, and we fund the purchase of new clothes for these children.

HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER CRISES

Tag partnered with Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national medical emergency service, to provide training in emergency medicine in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Indonesia, Kenya, and Ukraine. Tag also advanced disaster preparedness to enhance rescue, recovery and reconstruction, from trauma care to citizen mobilization in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Myanmar. Tag extends humanitarian aid in times of crisis. We support our partners across Ukraine with a range of assistance.

Sharing expertise for sustainable livelihoods

Tag delivers agriculture-based livelihood improvement solutions that stimulate climate resilience through local capacity building and adapted technologies. We develop the capabilities of local farmers by bringing in valuable Israeli agricultural expertise to introduce new crop varieties, enhance farming methods and improve water usage to increase yields and crop quality.   Tag has also run projects to harness IT to further livelihoods and employability.

youth empowerment

Imparting life skills through sport

Tag works to empower young people, with a special emphasis on at-risk girls and boys, through improved education and mentoring. Our youth projects also incorporate arts, sport and skills training. Our projects range from Water Works for Girls in Kenya, providing clean drinking water, improved hygiene and sanitation and supporting girls in education, to a youth resilience project in land mine-affected areas incorporating soccer, outdoor adventure and first aid.

mothers and babies

Savings lives of mothers and babies

Empowering women and improving their health and wellbeing contributes significantly to the resilience and health of the entire population. We work with local partners to develop innovative community-based solutions that empower and inform women and help them gain access to much-needed healthcare. We also focus on reducing maternal and infant mortality through improved understanding of health, hygiene and nutrition and through improved detection and treatment.
