Road Safety
Tag signed an Agreement for Cooperation in the field of road safety and injury prevention with the Health Ministry Myanmar. We brought emergency medicine experts to develop the capacities of the Yangon General Hospital to respond to traffic-related injuries.
School Safety
In the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, Tag worked with affected communities to better prepare for natural disasters. Tag facilitated an assessment of the school safety situation in Myanmar, executed by its partners YAKKUM and All India Disaster Mitigation Institute professionals. Tag partnered with LEAD, a Yangon based NGO, to bring practitioners, professionals and community leaders from schools and the affected villagers to Yangon for training in school safety.
Youth Employability
Tag ran initiatives aimed at introducing youth in rural areas to entrepreneurship knowledge, resources and opportunities, and thus increasing employability. We ran a project to enhance employability skills for students in Southern Shan State. We provided training and mentoring and facilitated direct linkages with employers. Following this effort, Tag launched E3: EDUCATION, EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP, to increase access to job skills training among Myanmar’s rural youth, with a focus on IT literacy, technology and entrepreneurship.
Plan Bee
Tag leveraged bee-keeping to improve employment, skills, nutrition and livelihood opportunities by introducing innovation and technical expertise. We trained over 2,000 beekeepers in advanced beekeeping skills, as well as providing start-up capital, beekeeping equipment, and ongoing mentoring. Our project created upgraded training manuals, and introduced a range of innovative beekeeping equipment.
The project initiated 19 Community-Based Enterprises, and provided them with the necessary training and support to become small businesses. In addition, a series of women-led microenterprises were established producing and selling bee-related products. We worked to advance branding and marketing of honey. As a result, Plan Bee honey is now available globally. We established a Social Beekeeping Enterprise called Plan Bee that sells the products to premium local and international markets.
Open Sesame
Tag together with its partner SARA worked to advance the sesame sector in the Dry Zone of Myanmar. 6,500 farmers across 100 villages were helped to increase their sesame yield and attract a good price for their crop. The goal was to increase the quality and quantity of sesame yield by 15% through improved technology, crop management, irrigation, climate-adapted agriculture, and integrated beekeeping. We also worked to reduce post-harvest sesame loss by 25% through introducing post-harvest solutions and training.
Drop of Milk
In Partnership with Rotary, Tag worked to enhance the training and equipment for nurses and midwives in Shan State to improve the life chances of mothers and babies. The project impacted thousands of people across 138 villages in the Taunggyi region of Shan State.
Called A Drop of Milk, the project implemented effective monitoring and tracking during pregnancy, introduced early detection of high-risk pregnancies, and promoted enhanced hygiene and sanitation practices in healthcare delivery.
We also provided education and training about child development to community health workers. Several hospitals received life-saving equipment for high-risk pregnancies and births, and maternal health kits were distributed to midwives and auxiliary midwives.
