Tag operated in Malaita, the largest of the remote and underdeveloped Solomon Islands situated in the Pacific, supporting bottom-up development designed to help the islanders to organize at a provincial level to prepare for natural disasters and to leverage natural resources. In cooperation with MASHAV and the JDC, Tag assisted in establishing the Malaita Chazon Development Authority to stimulate projects for agro-processing, sustainable fisheries, management of infrastructure and integration of solar technology into a comprehensive development plan.
Tag’s work in the Solomon Islands focused on a) disaster preparedness and immediate response capabilities at the community level, b) food security by promoting quality organic agriculture, and c) establishment of mini-enterprise centres, such as agro-processing-based industry, fish processing, and crafts-based businesses.
