“I am an orphan living alone in the Mathare slum of Nairobi. I’m 14 years old. Last year I couldn’t attend school because I didn’t have the money to pay for it. I really enjoy the Hoops for Kids program because it gives me an opportunity to grow up in a very special context where I feel I can be myself with a group that supports and inspires me.
“In December I was awarded MVP at the national tournament in Mombasa. Thanks to the program and to efforts of the coaches, I was able to find a partial scholarship for the 2018 school year. Without this program, I would be forced to continue finding small jobs in order to survive. Hoops for Kids gives me serious motivation to continue to be committed to something I really love. Thanks to the project I now have new hope.”
