As explained in the previous report, the medical center delivered a wide range of planned and urgent surgical operations (general and specialized surgery). Since the hostilities, the center has been handling injuries caused by the bombing, as well as treating large number of internally displaced people.

In this report, we will focus on some additional aspects, especially as it relates to recent activities.

Mobile units

The medical center has greatly expanded its services within the community. For example, it has been providing treatment in old age homes, to ensure continuity of care even under the very challenging circumstances. Assistance was provided to adults and children within the ambulatory polyclinic service, both planned and urgent surgical operations, including highly specialized areas.

There are regularly organized deliveries of residents of the home for the elderly to carry out treatment and diagnostic measures. In addition, visits are made to shelters and places of temporary residence of internally displaced persons.

Medical equipment

Thanks to your support, important medical equipment has been purchased. For example, for the ophthalmological department, a tomograph for spectral optical coherence tomography and a modern ophthalmological scanner were purchased.  These devices are especially in demand among elderly patients and children – see pictures.

Under conditions of war

From the first days of the war, the oncological service has been working steadily, oncologists are consulting, oncosurgical operations are being performed, chemotherapy cycles of varying degrees of complexity are constantly undergoing chemotherapy.

Despite all the difficulties of martial law and problems with energy supply, the laboratory is actively working in the clinic, a significant amount of research is being carried out in the direction of hematology, biochemistry, enzyme immunoassays, coagulography, urinalysis, cytological and pathohistological studies.

The obstetrics and gynecology department is providing diagnosis and treatment of women with reproductive issues.  The doctors of the clinic also treat a large number of pregnant women, who due to the war have fewer places to seek help.

Utilities disruption

The increasing attacks against infrastructure of Ukraine poses an immense challenge for the practice of medicine. Medical establishments, including the JMC clinic, has become a regular lack of electricity, heating and water supply.

However, the provision of medical care continues even in the absence of light and water.  The doctors of the clinic continue their work by the light of flashlights, headlamps, using power banks. Water reserves are used, which are prepared in advance.

COVID

At the moment, a high number of patients are sick with COVID-19.  The JMC has been providing assistance to patients with Covid since the first days of the pandemic. Indeed, a quarter of the population of Dnipro was vaccinated by the JMC.
