Emergency relief in Ukraine - Support for Women Refugees in Poland

We are continuing to help thousands of people to receive daily hot meals, weekly food parcels, and a range of other assistance. We are also providing shelters for women refugees and their children in Poland.

Emergency assistance in Ukraine

We helping various communities – Zhytomir, Vinnitza, Odessa, and Mykolayev – to get their people food, accommodation and transport.

We are currently assisting our Ukraine partners to:
  • Provide thousands of hot meals daily
  • Distribute thousands of weekly food packages
  • Sources and give out hundreds of medicines
  • Arrange summer activities for children
  • Provide psychosocial support
  • Refurbish bomb shelters so schools could reopen

Shelters for women and children in Poland

Our next major development was the realization that there was an acute need for women and children who arrive in Poland to have a safe and wholesome place to live while they decide their next steps. Many refugees have experienced and/or witnesses considerable horrors and need a great deal of immediate support. We set up two shelters in the Polish city of Rzeszow to provide:
  • Short to medium term accommodation for women and children
  • Advice and assistance in accessing government support and finding employment
  • Social activities and emotional support
We have so far sent out 20 teams of professional volunteers, each spending around 10 to 14 days in Poland. Besides for managing the shelters, they have:
  • Provided training to staff working with refugees
  • Run summer camps for refugee children
  • Run various programs in local schools to improve inclusion of refugees
  • Provided training at universities for social work students

Jewish Medical Center in Dnipro

We also have given significant support to the Jewish Medical Center in Dnipro, which has been providing treatment to thousands of internally displaced people and those wounded in Russian attacks, as well as to the locals that it normally services. Our assistance has enabled them to purchase much needed equipment and medications.

The JMC, like so many other organizations, was forced to provide a range of complex medical care in the absence of electricity, as can be seen in the picture.
